Your fall-colors rustic Brazilian Zouk get-away in Northern Minnesota on a remote lake.

The Weekend of October 10th-12th, 2025
Zouk Cabin Up North is a small community zouk camping weekend with access to professional Brazilian Zouk artists and social dancing. No tents! We've reserved rustic cabins at Tettegouche State Park. These 4 cabins are isolated from the rest of the campgrounds and the park. It's an adventure though, and you will need to hike or mountain bike into the camp 1.6 miles on a wide gravel compacted trail. We are limiting the attendance to 20 people at the cabins, with an additional up to 10 people who can hike in from other lodging options (max 30 people). This will be an exclusive opportunity to culminate experiences with your fellow dancers and Bruno and Fae! We are asking everyone to be familiar with level 2 criteria through Amozouk's (of Minneapolis, MN) curriculum. That includes the following: basic step, lateral, lunge with simple turn, viradinha, soltinho, yo-yo, and bonus.
The Artists

Bruno and Fae started dancing together in Los Angeles in November 2015 and have since taught and performed at most every major event all over the world. Bruno and Fae were the 2024 Brazilian Zouk World Champions in the Teams division. Throughout their career they have won numerous Jack and Jill competitions (currently in All-Star/Advanced divisions), including taking 1st and 2nd place in the Brazilian Zouk World Championships, and got featured in the Hollywood production of the movie “Fences”. Fae has a rich dance background in classical ballet, modern, contemporary and commercial jazz, as well as hip hop and heels choreographies. She is also an All-Star west coast swing dancer. Bruno is trained in hip hop, salsa, kizomba and of course Brazilian Zouk. He has been on the social dance scene of his hometown Braga, Portugal since he was 14 years old. Together Bruno and Fae are one of the highest ranking Brazilian zouk couples in the US, expanding into the international scene - dancers, instructors, performers, choreographers and BZDC certified judges for Brazilian Zouk competitions. Bruno and Fae are also the directors of the Elevation Zouk Festival in Denver, CO and the Sunset Zouk Marathon in Orlando, FL, along with smaller events and classes in Central Florida. Having combined their knowledge and experience as dancers and teachers, Bruno and Fae have built a unique and memorable style, which they are always eager to share!

All four cabins include a electric heat and a woodstove and firewood; a small kitchenette with two-burner cooktop, mini refrigerator, pots, pans, plates, and utensils; a picnic table and fire ring with grill; a screened porch; and use of a canoe with paddles and life vests.
Jugs are provided and guests may use the shower building or the hand pump to collect water. No pets, no smoking. Bring your own bedding and linens - sleeping bags work best. Guests are responsible for cleaning after their stay, supplies are provided. Bathrooms are accessed in the main shower building or the outhouse.

Location and Parking
If you don't have a Minnesota State Parks annual parking sticker for your vehicle, you will need to either purchase two daily permits at $7 each, or an annual pass for $35. You can also check on whether you can check out a free weekly pass from a local library. See links below:

What to Pack
Sleeping bag Pillow Clothes (including warm clothes) Jacket Toiletries Flashlight or headlamp (optional) Towel Food (yes - you will need to bring your own food!) (There are kitchenettes in the cabins with electric cooktop stoves, mini refrigerators, cooking pots, pans, dishes and utensils) Freeze-dried foods, dehydrated foods, tuna packets, rice meals, beans, jerky, veggies.
Please be aware, the hike in requires you to carry your own gear with a backpack or a wagon, and takes about 40 minutes to hike in. You can also bike in, if you have a way to haul your bike and gear. If you don't have a backpack, please reach out to Ike, because he may have an extra. The University of Minnesota is another resource for renting all kinds of camping gear very cheaply. See link below.
Carpooling
It's a great idea to carpool. Share the expense on fuel, and reduce the parking passes needed! Whether you're driving and have an open spot, or looking for a ride, check out the rideshare google doc here:
Sleeping Options
As described in the links at checkout, there are options to have your own twin-size bed which will require a climb up the bunk ladder, or to share a full-size bed with a friend. If you purchase a pass to share a bed, and haven't found someone to share it with yet, you can either enter your name into the link below, or work it out with a friend on your own. The third option is to find a campsite or other lodging near the trailhead. Eckbeck Campground is part of Finland State Forest, and is 4.7 miles from the trail head. Camp sites are $17 per night, and more info is in the link below. Lax Lake Resort offers additional cabins and is 1.7 miles from the trailhead. Realize for both these options, it requires a hike in and out each day. There is yet another option for those even more adventurous. The Superior Hiking Trail runs near the cabins (other side of the lake). There are hike-in camp sites on the Superior Hiking Trail. You can see the various options below.
Checkout
Because we are just a couple of months away, we cannot offer refunds for this event if you cancel. However, you can transfer the pass to another person up until the date of the event.
